Photos of the world in the Quartier des spectacles
For the first time, the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition is being presented in Montreal. Starting this weekend and until October 14, over 145 works captured by professional, amateur and student photographers from around the world will be on display. Installed on the Promenade des Artistes in the Quartier des Spectacles, the exhibition is held entirely outdoors. Access is free and possible both during the day and in the evening.
A very quiet drive-in movie theater
The Estival du nouveau cinéma is marking its fourth edition with music, food, and most importantly, open-air cinema until Sunday. The Esplanade Tranquille in the Quartier des spectacles opens its doors at 6 p.m. every evening this weekend to welcome “summer visitors.” As soon as night falls, around 8 p.m., it’s time for the movies. The animal kingdomby French director Thomas Cailley, will be presented on Friday. It will be followed on Saturday by the feature film Humanist vampire seeks consenting suicideby Quebecer Ariane Louis-Seize. A trip to the planet of Arrakis will close the show, with the presentation on Sunday of Dune, Part Twoby Denis Villeneuve.
Rendezvous in light at the Botanical Garden
From Friday to the very end of October, the Jardins de Lumière offer you an illuminated journey that will make you (re)discover the three cultural gardens of the Botanical Garden. On this occasion, the Japanese Garden, the First Nations Garden and the Chinese Garden are reworked by means of projections, lanterns and sound ambiances. For this edition, the Japanese Garden route has been reinvented on the theme of ” yûgen » — meaning “deep and mysterious beauty” — in homage to the islands and mountains of Japan. The highlight of the show is undoubtedly the lake in the Chinese Garden, where the legend of Chinese butterfly lovers is evoked by a set of lanterns.
Trad or classical?
Music lovers will have to choose between trad and classical music this weekend. The Festival Trad Montréal, its step-dancing master class and its performances will thrill festival-goers at Parc Ahuntsic and Patro Villeray. The event will conclude Sunday with a ” party final” presented by up-and-coming Montreal klezmer group Yenne Velt. The Tremblant Music Festival offers more than 30 free outdoor classical music concerts in the heart of the Tremblant resort village. The festivities begin Friday and will last until Monday, this Labor Day weekend.
