A gas leak that occurred Wednesday afternoon forced the interruption of electrical service for 50,000 people in the east end of Montreal. The leak was sealed early in the evening by Énergir and electrical service was able to resume shortly thereafter.
The intervention on a gas leak located on Pie-IX Boulevard, between Hochelaga and Rouen streets, forced Hydro-Québec to interrupt its service in this sector.
“Excavation work carried out by a third party caused a break in an underground Énergir natural gas pipeline,” explains Énergir Senior Advisor, Media and Public Affairs, Elaine Arsenault. “The break is under control and does not pose a danger to the safety of the population.”
Around 7 p.m., Énergir teams managed to seal the gas leak, allowing the electrical service to be restored.
