Harmful effects of vaping | Luguentz Dort takes part in awareness campaign

Montrealer Luguentz Dort, of the Oklahoma City Thunder, continued his involvement with Brise l’illusion by visiting the Lucien-Pagé school near Jarry Park on Wednesday.

In March, Dort took part for the first time in this campaign on the harmful effects of vaping.

Visiting young people on Wednesday continued his community involvement, after he held two basketball camps last weekend in the Saint-Laurent borough.

The 25-year-old athlete has once again teamed up with the Quebec Council on Tobacco and Health, as well as the Quebec Student Sports Network. The visit to Lucien-Pagé was part of the fourth edition of Brise l’illusion.

On the occasion of the start of the school year, he surprised 50 young people from the basketball concentration at his former school in Villeray by coming to run a training camp there.

Among advice on his sport, the Thunder player, who has just taken part in the Olympic Games, also spoke to the young people about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

“It’s always nice to go back to my roots,” Dort said in a statement. “Sharing a message and guiding young people to make the best decisions possible to develop their potential is what’s important to me. I want to share everything that allowed me to dream big.”

The campaign slogan is “No vaping, it’s a winner.”

Launched in March, the 4e The initiative’s first edition took the form of a television advertisement and a website, allowing young people to find information on the harmful effects of vaping.

“The Shatter the Illusion campaign has the privilege of collaborating with a renowned professional athlete in Luguentz,” said Stéphane Boudreau, deputy general director of the RSEQ, in a press release.

“It allows us to convey our message with the aim of helping young Quebecers develop a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Dominique Claveau, from the CQTS, echoed the same sentiment in a press release.

“Vaping among young people is a real problem that needs to be taken seriously. Nicotine addiction sets in very quickly, and we want to prevent young people from falling into this trap.

“Thanks to Luguentz, we were able to remind them of the benefits of a life without vaping,” added Claveau, the organization’s program director.
