Quebec has decided that the six Lab-Écoles in Quebec will be the only ones. There will be no more of these school buildings with unusual architecture that were designed to be absolutely ideal for the well-being of students.
Architect Pierre Thibault, businessman Ricardo Larrivée and Pierre Lavoie, who advocates physical activity, expressed their disappointment on Radio-Canada.
In total, six Lab-Écoles, whose design was inspired by what is seen in Scandinavia, have been built in Quebec or are in the process of being completed. None are located in Montreal, where the establishments are particularly dilapidated.
The CAQ government is now prioritizing the construction of so-called signature schools, which will be fairly uniform throughout the territory and which will be larger, brighter and will have more wood and aluminum than the old schools.
The cost of Lab-Schools seems to be the issue.
