A 2-year-old child was seriously injured after being bitten by a dog late Sunday afternoon, August 25, in the street in Hendaye, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, franceinfo learned from a close source.
The baby was bitten while he was with his parents and their dog, and they came across a man walking an American Staffordshire. This is a category 2 dog, that is to say a guard or defense dog, the possession of which is subject to specific obligations.
The Staffordshire terrier, muzzled and on a leash, then fought with the family dog and bit the boy in the genital area. The little boy was taken to hospital in a serious but not life-threatening condition.
The owner of the dog, arrested in a drunken state, was taken into custody. He is being questioned on Monday afternoon, the Bayonne prosecutor’s office said. The parents have filed a complaint and an investigation into unintentional injuries has been opened.
In early August, a 20-month-old girl was seriously injured after being bitten by a rottweiler-type dog on the terrace of a restaurant in Anglet, in the same department.
