The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) is investigating the “cloudy circumstances” surrounding the death of an 88-year-old man alongside his injured wife on Saturday in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
Emergency services were called around midnight Saturday in connection with a man and a woman found unconscious with injuries to their upper bodies at the intersection of Joseph-Casavant and Viel streets.
The 88-year-old man was pronounced dead when police arrived. “Given the unclear circumstances, the SPVM’s assistance was requested at the scene,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the police department.
The 86-year-old woman was taken to hospital, where her life is not in danger, according to the SPVM.
Investigators from the Major Crimes Section have been dispatched to the scene, and a perimeter has been set up around the scene. Officers will meet with the deceased’s wife in the coming hours.
