CBC/Radio-Canada | Ottawa refuses to say whether bonus approved for CEO

(Ottawa) The Liberal government refuses to say whether it approved a bonus for the director general of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

It is up to the federal government to determine whether Catherine Tait is eligible for a bonus, after a review of her performance and a recommendation from the CBC/Radio-Canada board of directors.

CBC/Radio-Canada referred questions to the federal government. Canadian Heritage, which oversees the Crown corporation, referred questions to the Privy Council Office, which supports the cabinet and the prime minister.

Citing privacy laws, a spokesperson for the Privy Council Office said he could not release details, although some of the information has been made public in recent years.

The government would not say whether Mr.me Tait met her performance targets for the 2023-24 fiscal year, or if the board recommended she receive a bonus.

This year, CBC/Radio-Canada paid $18.4 million in bonuses to nearly 1,200 employees, managers and executives, after cutting hundreds of jobs.
