Paris | American rapper Travis Scott released without charge

(Paris) Travis Scott, one of the biggest stars of American rap, was released on Saturday without charge after thirty-six hours in police custody in Paris on suspicion of violence, AFP learned from one of his representatives in the United States.

Asked by AFP, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed “the lifting of Travis Scott’s police custody today (Saturday) as well as the dismissal of the proceedings, the offence being insufficiently characterised”.

Early Friday morning, police were “called to the Georges V Hotel and [avaient] arrested the man nicknamed Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard. The latter himself intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard,” the public prosecutor reported on Friday.

In this investigation entrusted to the 1er judicial police district, the rapper had been taken into custody on Friday morning, a measure which was lifted on Saturday at midday.

“We are in direct contact with the local Parisian authorities in order to quickly resolve this situation,” the artist’s representative indicated in a message to AFP on Friday evening.

The star had posted a video on Instagram on Thursday evening showing him at Bercy, where the basketball events of the Paris Olympic Games are being held. On the same account followed by 57 million subscribers, he then posted images of his presence at a nightclub party.

The rapper rose to fame in 2015 with his debut album, “Rodeo.” Since then, the Houston native has become a figure in American rap and has released four more albums, including the hit “Astroworld” (2018).

Real name Jacques Bermon Webster II, Travis Scott has two children with his ex-partner, American influencer Kylie Jenner. He has already had some legal troubles across the Atlantic. In June, he was arrested in the United States, in Miami Beach (Florida), for disturbing the peace while he was drunk.
