What to do this weekend? | Le Devoir

The islands of Montreal in music

The Clock Tower Quay in the Old Port of Montreal is hosting the Orientalys festival until Sunday. Music, but also dance, poetry and theatre will be on hand to showcase oriental culture, with artists such as Moroccan singer Zouhair Bahaoui. For lovers of Caribbean food and music, the Fête de l’île is offering its second edition at Parc d’À-Ma-Baie in Pierrefonds, where Waahli and Samito, among others, will be performing on Saturday and Sunday. Electronic music is also on the agenda with the ÎleSoniq festival at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

Take Paris to Montreal

While the Olympics are still in Paris this weekend, some of the Olympic energy will be in Montreal with the inaugural Team Canada Festifan. Olympians — both returning and fresh from Paris — will be in the courtyard of Windsor Station from Friday to Sunday. Loud and Milk & Bone will also be there with musical performances, hosted by freestyle skier Maxime Dufour-Lapointe and speed skater Catriona Le May Doan. There’s no need to worry about missing the Games, as they’ll be on the big screen.

Mystery in rural China

In a small village in China, a police chief investigates a series of strange murders during which an arrest is made prematurely. Set in the 1990s, Only the Rivers Flows is a well-crafted neon-noir thriller, but above all wrapped in an outstanding cinematography that skillfully transports us into its mystery. Adapted from the short story by Yu Hua Mistake by the Riverthe 101-minute film by Chinese director Wei Shujun, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category. On Friday, it opens in Quebec, only at the Cinéma du Parc.

Free for the whole family

The fifth edition of the Montreal Youth Literature Festival offers to spend your Sunday with storytelling, dancing and, of course, reading. The banks of the Lachine Canal welcome, among others, Alex A., author of the comics Agent Jean, and Innu writer Natasha Kanapé Fontaine, who will host public readings. Need a little more action? Circus, music and lights will illuminate the Saint-Michel district from Friday to Sunday. A night parade and an illuminated race in Frédéric-Back Park are also planned by Tohu, which is organizing this second edition of the Lumières de Saint-Michel.
