Suffering and beaten in the 200m final, the American sprinter had to give up his dream of an Olympic quadruple (100m, 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m) on Thursday.
Highly anticipated in the men’s 200m final, American sprinter Noah Lyles, world champion over the distance in Budapest (2023), had to settle for bronze on Thursday, August 8 at the Stade de France. Visibly diminished, the American remained lying on the track for a long time, before finally being evacuated in a wheelchair.
The American Athletics Federation said the sprinter had tested positive for Covid-19 before the race. This information was confirmed by Noah Lyles in the mixed zone, a few minutes after the race. Already adorned with bronze in the 200m in Tokyo, the American must give up his dream of an Olympic quadruple (100m, 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m), but will try to recover as much as possible, to perhaps aim for other medals in the 4x100m and 4x400m.
