A 39-year-old Brazilian was sentenced to 10 months of suspended imprisonment, a three-year ban on appearing in Paris and the confiscation of his documents, franceinfo learned on Wednesday, August 7, from the Paris prosecutor’s office.
The man was arrested on Monday while he was selling counterfeit Olympic medals on the street in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, franceinfo learned from concordant sources.
At the time of his arrest, the man was in possession of eleven medals, but during a search of his home, an AirBnb rental in the 10th arrondissement, nearly 850 medals and as many Paris 2024 lanyards were found, as well as more than 1,000 euros in cash. The man arrived in France on July 14.
The Paris prosecutor’s office confirms that the Brazilian appeared on prior admission of guilt (guilty plea procedure), “for the offences of possession of counterfeit goods without due justification, and illegal sale”The Olympic Games Organising Committee (OCOG) had been informed and was able to constitute itself as a civil party.
