The resigning Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, asked prefects across the country on Friday, August 2, “immediate reinforcement“of the security of the Jewish community, in a context of “very high level” of tension in the Middle East.

The telegram, sent to state representatives and to which France Télévisions had access, calls for great vigilance in the territory on the occasion of this “Friday declared ‘day of wrath'” by the Hamas movement. “The risk of action is real, especially since many Israeli nationals are present on national soil because of the Olympic Games.”continues the resigning minister.

Gérald Darmanin thus asks for “to immediately mobilize the law enforcement forces placed under [leur] authority and to use Sentinelle to guarantee the static protection of places frequented by our Jewish compatriots in the coming days, in particular during religious services.”

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, assassinated Wednesday in Tehran in a strike blamed on Israel, is to be buried in a cemetery in Lusail, north of Doha. On this occasion, Hamas called for a “day of anger”.
