(Jasper) Jasper National Park officials warn the wildfire in the area spans hundreds of square kilometres and is expected to intensify further Friday.
They say the fire remains out of control and has expanded by about 75 square kilometres, bringing its size to about 390 square kilometres.
They indicate that the widening was expected, mainly at the southern end of the fire.
Increased growth is expected on Friday due to the expected warm and dry weather.
Crews aided by helicopters worked to extinguish hot spots around the community and near the water treatment plant.
Thousands of people fled the town and the park last week because of the fire, which eventually spread to the community and destroyed a third of its buildings.
