Journey into the bowels of Habitat 67

The summer season is in full swing in Montreal, which welcomes approximately 11 million visitors each year. Whether they come from abroad, a neighboring province or even Quebec, many of them take part in guided tours to discover the metropolis. Artisans from “Le Devoir” have also joined in the fun to make you want to (re)discover Montreal from a different perspective.

Who has never looked at the imposing concrete structure located across from the Old Port of Montreal and wondered what the inside of these cubes stacked like Lego looks like? Since 2017, guided tours have been available to discover the Habitat 67 complex, built in the Cité du Havre.

The 12-story building has 148 apartments.

Made up of 354 cubes, the 12-storey building contains 148 units, mainly luxury condos. Our guide Julie Bélanger, passionate about Expo 67 and its legacy, convinced the residents to accept groups of visitors. The work of architect Moshe Safdie is after all classified as heritage and enjoys international renown. For information: Habitat67.com.

For 90 minutes, we discover the footbridges, the pedestrian streets, the suspended terraces as well as one of the apartments.

For 90 minutes, we discover the footbridges, the pedestrian streets, the suspended terraces as well as one of the apartments, the only one classified as heritage. It is that of Moshe Safdie, who bequeathed it to allow visits. Our visit is embellished with tons of information on the mission, the construction and the history of the complex. We also learn a lot about its architect and about Expo 67.
