Argentinian footballer Enzo Fernandez has apologised to his Chelsea team-mates

The player had filmed himself with some of his Argentinian teammates singing racist remarks targeting players from the French team, after their victory in the Copa América last July.

Midfielder Enzo Fernandez has apologized to his teammates at Chelsea Football Club, Radio France’s sports management learned on Tuesday, July 30, from sources close to the players, confirming information from RMC Sport. During the Copa América celebration evening on Monday, July 15, Enzo Fernandez filmed himself with other players from the Argentina national team singing a racist song, targeting players from the French team.

According to the testimony of sources close to the French players playing at Chelsea, Enzo Fernandez has “sincerely” excuse “in front of the group” players of the London club. The Argentinian will also make a donation to an association that fights against racism.

Following this racist chant, the French Football Federation (FFF) filed a complaint and contacted FIFA (International Federation of Association Football), which launched an investigation. For its part, Chelsea launched on Wednesday 24 July “a disciplinary procedure” against Enzo Fernandez.

Some of the Argentinian’s French teammates at Chelsea had unsubscribed from his Instagram account as a form of protest. Defender Wesley Fofana had also declared on another social network, X (ex-Twitter): “Football in 2024: racism without complexes”.
