The town hall of Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne) used a photo of Marshal Pétain to announce the Liberation Day celebrations, which will be held on August 19, in the town’s monthly bulletin. The opposition says it is shocked, as do many residents, who are demanding an apology.

In the municipal newspaper of Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne), the announcement of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the city was announced with a photo of Marshal Pétain. The publication caused a reaction from the inhabitants. “I wouldn’t have done it”comments one man. Another judge “curious that someone who did not participate in the liberation of Montauban was used in the photo”.

The municipal opposition denounces an insidious revisionism typical of the extreme right, with which the mayor (LR) of the city has allied herself for the legislative elections. “People who only look at the images can remember: Liberation, Pétain, welcomed in Montauban”deplores Anne-Marie Aynié, general secretary (PS) of Tarn-et-Garonne. The mayor responded to France Télévisions through her services. She indicates that the photo was intended to illustrate a guided tour of the city under occupation.
