Montreal | A vehicle hits a cyclist before fleeing

A cyclist was hit by a vehicle that then fled the scene Wednesday afternoon in downtown Montreal. The suspects have been found, and the man’s life is not in danger.

The 47-year-old cyclist was at the corner of Berri and Sainte-Catherine streets when a vehicle collided with him before escaping. “We are therefore talking about a hit and run here,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department (SPVM).

SPVM officers then located the vehicle not far from Saint-Denis Street. The driver, a 51-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the event. He and a 20-year-old passenger in the vehicle were transported to the investigation centre.

The cyclist’s life is not in danger and he was taken to hospital to be treated for a serious lower body injury.

The SPVM collision investigation team will investigate to determine the circumstances of the incident.
