Ain, Savoie and Haute-Savoie placed on orange alert for storms

The “rain and storm front”, expected on Friday in the middle of the afternoon, will be “particularly active from the east of Ain towards the Savoyard foothills”, specifies Météo-France.

Ain, Savoie and Haute-Savoie will be placed on orange alert for thunderstorms from 3 p.m. on Friday, July 12, Météo-France announced in its bulletin.

“This afternoon a rain and storm front is setting up on the Rhone valley, and will move towards the Alps at the end of the day. It is particularly active from the east of Ain towards the Savoyard forelands, where high levels of precipitation are expected”, the meteorological agency said, adding that “precipitation accumulations could locally reach 50-60 mm”.

Météo-France emphasizes that “in a context of already saturated soils, landslides or mudslides are possible locally”.
