Former CFL Executive | Christina Litz Named President of Northern Super League

Christina Litz, who has previously held executive positions with the Canadian Football League, Woodbine Entertainment and True North Sports and Entertainment in Manitoba, has been named president of the Northern Super League.

The new women’s professional soccer league will begin operations next April, with teams located in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.

“We are delighted to have her join us,” Super League North (SLN) co-founder Diana Matheson said of Litz.

“She has a great track record in the CFL, with the (Winnipeg) Jets, and she’s done a lot of other things… She knows the market very well,” added the former international player. “That’s exactly what we were looking for.”

Matheson, meanwhile, has accepted a new role as SLN’s director of development, and will focus “on developing new business opportunities for the league,” the women’s circuit said.

Litz, who is originally from Winnipeg, will be working out of Manitoba.

SLN said it still had to fill several vice-president positions.

Matheson also indicated that most of the hiring announcements at the sporting level will be made at a later date, since the majority of the targeted players are currently under contract with a professional club.

“There may be some that come sooner, but I would say for most hiring announcements, for most teams, it will come somewhere towards the end of the year,” she said.

Matheson added that the league is progressing well, although there is still a lot of work to be done.

“I think it’s going to be a sprint from here to next year, and there will probably be things behind the scenes that aren’t perfect and could be chaotic. But we’ll be on the ground next year and it’s going to be really extraordinary,” she concluded.
