A landfill, recycling and waste recovery center was on fire on Sunday June 23 in Beine-Nauroy, near Reims (Marne), report France Bleu Champagne-Ardenne and France 3 Grand Est. The fire broke out late in the morning, shortly before noon, at the stocks of wood and pallets and spread throughout the 2,500 square meters of the recycling center, according to the firefighters.

The mayor of the town, Romain Bonhomme, speaks of a fire which threatens to spread to the administrative buildings of the site, managed by Véolia. The plume of black smoke escaping from the area is visible for several kilometers around. Around forty firefighters from Marne responded to this fire. According to the mayor of the town, the damage is only material, no victims have been reported.

A significant security perimeter has been set up because the risk of a tank exploding has not been ruled out, according to France 3 Grand Est. We do not yet know the causes of the disaster. Caution is advised when approaching the area.
