Euro 2024 | Ukraine defeats Slovakia

(Düsseldorf) Ukraine, outclassed by Romania for its first match of Euro-2024 (3-0), has regained hope of reaching the 8e final of the German tournament by winning 2-1 against Slovakia on Friday in Dusseldorf.


Ukraine, however, started the match badly by conceding a goal from Ivan Schranz, scorer of the winning goal against Belgium (1-0), in the 17the minute on a marking error.

But Serhiy Rebrov’s team, notably deprived of Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, left on the bench, took the lead at the end of the first period and logically equalized through Mykola Shaparenko (54e).

Roman Yaremchuk gave his team the lead in the 80the minute by sliding the ball under Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka.

Before the Belgium-Romania match scheduled for Saturday (9 p.m. German time), three teams have three points, Romania, Ukraine and Slovakia, while Belgium brings up the rear in this group E (0 points) .
