Let’s protect our united Europe!”declared German President Frank Walter-Steinmeier, during a speech at the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre (Haute-Vienne), Monday June 10.

“While today we also hope that the future will be good, that our children and grandchildren will live in peace and freedom, this hope also imposes a mission on us. Our mission is the European Union !”did he declare.

The German president also expressed his “consternation”her “affliction” and his “feeling of shame” in this village in Haute-Vienne, victim of a Nazi massacre in June 1944. “And I would like to share with you the feeling of shame that inhabits me regarding the fact that assassins subsequently remained unpunished, that they did not atone for the most serious crimes.
