The Israeli army claimed responsibility, Thursday, June 6, for an airstrike against a school of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip, which left at least 27 dead, according to Hamas. According to the IDF, the facility housed “a base” of the Islamist movement.

“Army fighter jets… carried out a precise strike on a Hamas base located inside an UNRWA school in the Nousseirat region”said the Israeli army in a statement, which reported “several terrorists killed”. “Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists belonging to the Nukhba forces and who participated in the deadly attack on communities in southern Israel on October 7 operated in this compound. The terrorists directed their campaign of terror from the area of the school while exploiting it and using it as shelter”, added the Israeli army.

The Hamas media office announced at least 27 dead and many injured in this strike against the Nousseirat camp, in the center of the Gaza Strip. “A considerable number of martyrs and wounded continue to flock to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital”located in the town of Deir al-Balah, near the targeted region, the Hamas media office said, accusing the Israeli army of committing “horrible massacre”.

Earlier in the night, this hospital said it was facing the “failure of one of its electrical generators”which risked complicating the treatment of vulnerable patients and thus causing “a humanitarian catastrophe”.
