The warning issued by Environment Canada concerns the Magdalen Islands as well as the Atlantic provinces.

Snow accumulations will be accompanied by strong winds with gusts exceeding 100 km / h, causing blowing snow overnight and Saturday morning.

“Visibility will suddenly be reduced to almost zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow,” warned the federal agency, which recommends delaying all non-essential travel.

In the Maritimes, 20 to 30 cm of snow, and even 35 cm in Nova Scotia, are expected in places from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning.

For the north and west of the province, the federal agency predicts an episode of extreme cold with a wind chill between minus 38 and minus 40 next night and Saturday morning.

The extreme cold will particularly affect Abitibi, Matagami, Chibougamau, Waskaganish and Rivière Manicouagan.

Intermittent snow is forecast this evening in Montreal, Beauce and Estrie with a wind chill varying between minus 15 and minus 18.
