Seven people were indicted last week in Sens (Yonne) for “organized gang thefts”, reports Monday June 3 France Bleu Auxerre. They are suspected of having set up a stolen car trafficking network which has been rampant for several years throughout France.
Among the seven people indicted, two are in pre-trial detention and the five others have been placed under judicial supervision. Some suspects have already been convicted of vehicle theft. The network had been active for several years and stole recent cars, particularly from the Peugeot brand. The cars were disguised, that is to say the chassis and engine numbers were modified in order to be able to resell the vehicles.
Investigators were able to identify around fifty stolen cars. The arrests and searches carried out last week made it possible to lay hands on around thirty of these vehicles as well as money, including 12,000 euros seized from bank accounts. The total damage amounts to 874,000 euros according to the Sens public prosecutor’s office.
