“The night of New Year’s Eve saw a drop in violence thanks to the police force”, Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin said on his Twitter account this Saturday noon. Through a press release, he reports 648 fires that have caused 874 cars set on fire. In 2019, 924 fires had caused 1316 vehicles to burn. The Minister of the Interior also notes 441 arrests against 376 in 2019. 381 people were taken into police custody. They were 314 in 2019.
“The number of burnt vehicles is decreasing compared to previous years, just like the attacks against the police”, he congratulated himself by thanking the “130,000 police, gendarmes and civil security personnel who came to the aid and ensured the safety of the French last night”.
