8,000 classes are closed in France, 2,000 more than last Tuesday

This is a constantly increasing figure: nearly 8,000 classes are currently closed in primary schools in France because of cases of Covid-19, against 6,000 on Tuesday, and 4,000 last Friday. The Ministry of National Education announced it to the teachers’ unions, meeting by videoconference during a health point this Thursday morning.

A health protocol likely to evolve

The objective of this meeting this Thursday is to take stock of the various measures taken at school to slow the rebound of the Covid-19 epidemic. In this regard, the most serious track favored at this time by the government is an evolution of the screening policy and the rule of “closing a class from the first case detected” in primary.

The ministry leans for this solution, rather than the passage to level 3 of the health protocol. It is currently at level 2 everywhere in metropolitan France, on a scale of 4.

Jean-Michel Blanquer should make announcements this Thursday at noon during a press conference with Olivier Véran, Minister of Health and Jérôme Salomon, Director General of Health.
