74-year-old homeless man freezes to death in Montreal

A 74-year-old homeless man froze to death Monday night in Montreal, as a polar cold wave affects the metropolis.

The victim was found around 6 p.m. under an overpass near rue Saint-Jacques and highway 20.

As there is no criminal element in the file, the inquest was transferred to the coroner to determine the exact circumstances of this death.

Montreal police have not commented on the case.

The extreme cold that falls on Quebec has increased the pressure on homeless shelters, hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
