The 6th wave of COVID-19 infections will last for a month, according to the trend seen in Europe. A month ahead of North America since the start of the pandemic, the countries of Western Europe offer a glimpse of what awaits Quebec in the near future.
If we look at the curve of contaminations on the Old Continent, the curve of the 6th wave begins to flatten out a month after the start of the contaminations.
In France, for example, new positive cases have been falling for two days.
Fueled by the BA.2 sub-variant, this wave seems far less deadly than the previous ones. Mortality statistics are constantly decreasing in most European countries.
However, these data must be interpreted with caution, as not all cases are detected, far from it. The number of hospitalizations still continues to climb in most of these countries, a sign that European hospitals are not yet out of the woods. And that the Quebec health system must expect an increasing influx of patients at least until mid-May.
