600 social workers demonstrate in Metz

A caterpillar, drums and music to keep warm, slogans and signs in hand to show their determination: about 600 employees and directors of medico-social structures were gathered this Tuesday morning on the forecourt of the Prefecture of the Moselle. Specialized educators, social workers, life assistants, administrative or logistical employees, all lined up behind the same slogan: “Revalorisation pour tous”. They consider themselves forgotten by the Ségur de la santé. Because they will not benefit from a salary increase, unlike caregivers. The problem is that in the medico-social sector, some work with each other, and this inequality of treatment is very badly experienced.

Non-recognition of work

“From an ethical and moral point of view, this is unacceptable” Pointe Abdelali Fahim, Director General of the CMSEA (Moselle Committee for the Protection of Children and Adults), “and from a legal point of view it is really limited since we will have employees of the same employer, with the same functions, but not the same salary.” Johane, educator in Saint-Avold at FAS Les Sereins, notes “a split between the staff.” Emmanuel, specialist educator at the Les Peupliers residence in Scy-Chazelle sees a deep injustice in this: “It is a non-recognition of the work that we have been providing for years. We are not caregivers but we take on a heavy medical workload.”

Lack of attractiveness

This setting aside of the revaluations granted by the government after the health crisis does not contribute to make the jobs in the sector more attractive. “In Moselle, nearly 150 positions are unfilled” continues Abdelali Fahim. It is therefore also the care for the most vulnerable people of our society which also at stake according to the demonstrators.
