Boxer Tammara Thibeault, freestyle skier Mikaël Kingsbury and hockey player Marie-Philip Poulin were all honored for their performances at the international level during the 50e edition of the Gala Sports Québec, Thursday evening.
The gala, which brought together more than 350 people at the Bonsecours Market in Montreal, annually rewards coaches, officials, athletes, volunteers, federations and sporting events who have distinguished themselves during the year. A total of 19 Maurices, in addition to the Tribute to Jacques-Beauchamp, were awarded among 58 finalists.
Tammara Thibeault, who was crowned world champion under 75 kg, won the Mauritius of the female athlete of the year at the international level. The pugilist also won gold at the Americas Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
Mikaël Kingsbury, the most successful freestyle skier in history in the Moguls World Cup, received the same honor on the men’s side. This is his ninth career Maurice.
As for the hockey player Marie-Philip Poulin, captain of the national team, she was rewarded with the Maurice of the athlete in collective sport at the international level. Poulin, who was also a winner last year, helped the country win gold at the Beijing Olympics as well as the World Championship in 2022.
