The firefighters intervened Friday at 5 p.m. for the fire of a farm called Bas Guillet in the town of Guéméné-Penfao in Loire-Atlantique. When help arrives, the building 1300 square meters was totally on fire. It housed 400 calves, none of which could not be evacuated according to the firefighters’ statement released Thursday evening.
Two people hospitalized
The firefighters took care of two people, a 29-year-old woman and her 4-year-old boy. Both were slightly inconvenienced by fumes and transported to Nantes University Hospital.
The carcasses of the animals will be taken care of during the weekend by a rendering company. The fire was extinguished and then contained using four spears fire. The firefighters in particular prevented the fire from spreading to the technical installations adjacent to the building. These facilities included two milk powder storage silos, one grain storage silo and one gas silo.
A specialized fire department also intervened to measure the toxicity of the fumes because there was 80 liters of nitro-chlorinated acid in the damaged building, the product is used for cleaning the stables.
