Meteo France announces a early heat wave in this late spring, “from Wednesday” and “until the weekend”, with a peak of intensity between Thursday and Saturday. According to meteorologists, “the heat wave thresholds could be reached or even exceeded”. The highs should reach or exceed 35 to 38°C and the lows will not drop below 20°C.
The “sequence looks longer in the south” with temperatures that can exceed 35°C for several days in a row, especially in the south-east. Heat records could be broken.
This heat wave is due to “a localized depression between the Azores and Madeira” who go “promote the rise of hot air over Western Europe” as well as to a “powerful ridge of high pressure”. This warm air is already present this weekend on the Iberian Peninsula. Spain is indeed experiencing a unprecedented heat wave for at least twenty years for this time of year. The thermometer thus reached 40°C on Saturday in Seville and Cordoba, in the south of the country.
“What is happening is not a surprise, it is what all the reports have been decrying for years. We know that these periods of very strong heat, very early, will multiply”laments Alix Roumagnac, president of Predict service, risk subsidiary of Météo France, guest on franceinfo on Saturday.
