285 women involved in politics sign a forum “for a political #MeToo”

They are 285 women engaged in politics, the vast majority of left, signatories of a platform Monday, November 15 in The world titled “For a political #MeToo: Sexual abusers have no place in the 2022 elections”. They call “the political world to a large-scale response to sexual and gender-based violence committed by our representatives“.

TO a few months before the 2022 presidential election, the forum notes that “three candidates for the Elysee are already cited in numerous testimonies of sexual assault. This does not prevent them, far from it, from considering that they are worthy to occupy the supreme magistracy. This shows how indifferent the condition of women and victims is to them.“. But beyond the presidential election, the signatories call for vigilance for the legislative elections that will follow: In June 2022, we will elect the members of the National Assembly. Today, among the 577 deputies, some are perpetrators of gender-based and sexual violence“, denounces again the platform, recalling that, “within Parliament, town halls, departmental and regional councils, men implicated, sometimes convicted, for rape, for sexual assault, for sexual assault on a minor, for domestic violence are elected“.

The signatories urge “political apparatuses to listen to the victims and to do preventive work. (…) The political world must assume its responsibilities and exclude the perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence from its ranks and be exemplary in the designations“, especially since these elected officials then vote or block laws on women’s rights. They wonder: “The voice of women has been freed, but when will it be freed from listening, real inclusion in political parties?“And ask elected officials and party officials to sign”en masse“a three-point pledge against gender-based and sexual violence in politics, drafted by the signatories.

This commitment is a form, posted on the metoopolitique.fr site, in which they can enter “not to invest”, “not to give my sponsorship”, “not to hire” a person accused of gender-based or sexual violence.
