As soon as we arrived on the scene, we are immersed in the 50s to 70s. Here, caravans have replaced the usual mobile homes. The ladies are dressed in period dresses, matching hairstyles and hair bands.
Marie-Hélène is one of them. Her caravan, she is passionate about it. In his vehicle, which dates from 1965, everything is made of wood: bed, table, furniture…Red floral curtains, orange checkered table…everything seems to be frozen in time.
But his caravan reminds him above all of many memories:
“I spent my holidays in the south of France with my parents, my children spent their camping holidays in this caravan with great happiness, my grandchildren too, and the 4th generation will arrive, with always the same caravan. It’s really a family affair”.
Vintage collections thanks to garage sales
Its neighbor, Prescillia, came from Burgundy to participate. And in his family, everyone went on a vintage adventure. For her, it all started ten years ago:
“I fell into it thanks to my husband. He was the one who was passionate about old cars. And little by little, we started buying furniture, crockery, period curtains, and even dresses. And even at home, everything is vintage!”.
Her collection, she filled it particularly thanks to garage sales, flea markets and house sales. Today, his way of life surprises his friends “They sometimes tell me that I have the same bedside table as their grandmother, or the same plates, it’s always well received.”
Her daughter also fell in. Ambre, 10 years old, rides her old Peugeot bike with her dress from the 50s and 60s.
“I only like old bikes. When I was little, I already had an old tricycle. Even on a daily basis, I listen to records. We have a record player at home, I prefer to listen to old music , I love.”
Relive the nostalgia together
Delphine, she does not see herself spending a single summer without retro-camping. This Norman likes to meet the enthusiasts every year, whom she now knows well:
“We share strong moments around our common passion. We are reliving a wonderful time that we once knew. I was born in 1968. It’s all my childhood.”
This event is organized by Jean-Philippe L’honoré and his wife, Céline. 18 months of preparation. A gathering that affects all generations: children, working people, retirees. And above all, which revives nostalgia, he explains:
“We are all trying to find the caravan of our childhood. My children will also try to find caravans from the 2000s. The collection evolves, like the cars, the objects. We are looking for our childhood. It is nostalgia that prevails”.
Beyond the reunion, the association has also organized activities, such as a trailer sale. Guides du routard, old crockery, old household appliances… Everything you need to fill your caravan.
This Sunday, the caravans should be numerous on the road, the participants leave the camp as of today.
