24th Quebec Cinema Gala | The Drunken Birds stands out at the Gala des artisans





During the first part of the 24e Gala Québec Cinéma, mainly devoted to more technical categories, drunken birds stood out more than any other film. Ivan Grbovic’s excellent feature film is heading to the next gala, held in the evening, with already a harvest of five Iris trophies: best cinematography (Sara Mishara also co-signed the screenplay for this film), best editing (Arthur Tarnowski), Best Original Music (Philippe Brault), Best Sound (Olivier Calvert, Stephen de Oliveira, Bernard Gariépy Strobl), and Best Casting (Nathalie Boutrie).

let’s remember that drunken birdsa film that represented Canada at the Oscars in the category of best international film earlier this year, is cited in 16 categories, as is Maria Chapdelaine. The very beautiful film by Sébastien Pilote won the Iris for best costumes (Francesca Chamberland) and best hairstyles (Martin Lapointe).

Quoted 13 times, The time grabbera film by Francis Leclerc whose screenplay was written by Fred Pellerin, has won so far in the categories of best artistic direction (Arnaud Brisebois, Jean Babin and Ève Turcotte), best visual effects (Alchimie 24 ) and the best make-up (Adriana Verbert and Bruno Gatien).

In the categories devoted to documentary films, like a wave, by Marie-Julie Dallaire, already has two Iris trophies, those awarded to best cinematography (Tobie Marier Robitaille and Josée Deshaies) and best editing (Louis-Martin Paradis). The Iris for best sound was also awarded to the film The sons (Bruno Bélanger, Manon Cousin, Louis-Philippe Amiot, Ivann Uruena and René Portillo); for Best Original Music at Archipelago (Stéphane Lafleur and Christophe Lamarche-Ledoux).

Sixteen trophies were awarded during this Craftsmen’s Gala, hosted by Guillaume Lambert, including the Iris Tribute, awarded this year to Louise Portal. Celebrating her 50 years of cinema, the actress, moved, was able to hear beautiful testimonies from Gaston Lepage, Sophie Deraspe, David La Haye, Gilbert Sicotte and Renée Beaulieu. The professionals, gathered in the Cirque Éloize studios, also gave him a nice ovation.
