Viergemene Toussaint was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend, a 36-year-old man, police sources indicate. The suspect was arrested Friday evening by authorities and taken to the investigation center, according to Mariane Allaire-Morin, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service.
The suspect was to return to court on November 14 in a domestic violence case. He allegedly kidnapped and beat the victim last summer. Sources say he tried to steal and destroy her cell phone.
He was conditionally released at the end of July, court documents show. It also specifies that he was forbidden to approach the victim and his home. He had no right to communicate with her.
In recent months, the neighborhood would have witnessed arguments between the woman and her husband, say our sources. The Press was able to confirm that the ex-spouse suspected of murder would have been arrested at that time.
“Suspicious” Circumstances
It was a friend of the 42-year-old victim who made the sad discovery on Friday morning. Authorities were notified around 9:30 a.m., said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant. “The friend in question had not heard from the victim for some time. So he went to her house and was able to enter the apartment. »
The police arrived shortly after at the home of the deceased, located on boulevard Lacordaire, near rue Amos.
“On the spot, they found that the circumstances of the death were suspicious, and an investigation is underway,” explains agent Brabant. The woman’s body bore marks of violence, according to our sources.
According to our information, there was no trace of forced entry into the apartment. A security perimeter was erected to allow investigators to shed light on this possible murder.
Around noon, the police were still trying to find out more by going door to door with neighbors.
The images from the surveillance cameras will be viewed by the investigators in the coming hours in order to learn more about this tragedy. “An autopsy should be performed shortly to find out a little more about the cause of this death,” adds agent Jean-Pierre Brabant.
It would be the 24the murder to occur in the metropolis this year.
