1922-2022 Your airport celebrates its 100th anniversary.

France Bleu Provence presents the event “100 years of Marseille-Provence airport” and invites you to attend a private day in Marignane.

The story of an Air Port which became the first real civilian airport.

In 1922, inauguration with great fanfare after the First World War. The more than 8,000 planes that flew alongside the French fighters turned to civil aviation, thus urgently finding another outlet than military aviation.

From 1933 the traffic reached 10,000 passengers since the creation. Many airlines make Marseille Marignane their stopover point before crossing the Mediterranean.

At the dawn of the Second World War, the airport was one of the few not to be militarized before being bombed in 1944 by the German army.

After the reconstruction and from 1951 Marignane officially became the main airport of Marseille.

In 1970, Air France’s giant four-engined Boeing 747 landed in Marignane for 2 months of training on the Marseille tarmac.

In 1981 The first car park benefiting from a credit card payment system in France was built. He is still active.

In 1992 the architect Richard Rogers designed a vast extension project of 16,000 m². Hall 4 is inaugurated and a new control tower is inaugurated.
