Immigration law: 16,000 people demonstrated in Paris – (franceinfo)
At the call of a collective of personalities, tens of thousands of people demonstrated across France against the immigration law on Sunday January 21. Adopted in the National Assembly with the votes of the National Rally, the text must still be approved by the Constitutional Council.
Following the appeal launched by 201 personalities, demonstrations took place throughout France against the immigration law. In Paris, opponents of the text gathered on the Place du Trocadéro early in the afternoon. Civilians, political and union leaders gathered to condemn the ideological victory of the far right. “Equal pay for equal work“, insisted Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the Communist Party. “We do not distinguish between workers based on their origins or their skin color (…) all these men and women are essential to the country“, he added.
160 events organized throughout France
16,000 people gathered in Paris to express their disagreement with the immigration law, adopted in the National Assembly by the votes of the government party and the National Rally. “We are here to challenge Gérald Darmanin and tell him that he must stop the double talk“, launched Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT. In the rest of the country, nearly 160 demonstrations were organized.
