16-year-old shot dead in Montreal

A 16-year-old man lost his life after being shot in the upper body on Sunday evening in the borough of Villeray – Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension, in Montreal, becoming the 31ste homicide of the year in the metropolis.

The emergencies were called around 9 p.m. to intervene at the corner of rue Villeray and 20e Avenue for a man hit by a projectile from a firearm, said the spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Raphaël Bergeron.

The victim, Thomas Trudel, was found unconscious on the spot and after attempts at resuscitation, his death was pronounced on the spot by the paramedics.

The young man was not known to the police and no arrests had yet been made on Monday morning.

The event considered to be a homicide was transferred to the major crimes section of the SPVM. Investigators were on site at the end of the evening to shed light on the facts and met witnesses to the scene.
