Montreal customs officers recently made a huge seizure of narcotics in a container coming from China, when they discovered nearly 12 million amphetamine tablets there.
The value of the seizure is estimated by the authorities at $56 million. “However, the real value on the black market would be considerably higher,” the Border Services Agency (CBSA) said in a press release.
The seizure was made on August 29 by border services agents from the Montreal Maritime and Rail Service.
The drugs were hidden in 744 PVC panels.
“The contraband was discovered using various detection tools on which an anomaly appeared. After opening the panels and discovering the concealed tablets, border services officers transferred the contraband to the RCMP for destruction,” the CBSA said.
No arrests have yet been made in this case.
