THE chilling moment a deranged teenage murderer enticed his 15-year-old former girlfriend into an alleyway, subsequently stabbing her 36 times, has come to light.
At just 16 years old, Logan MacPhail was caught on disturbing CCTV footage stalking Holly Newton for 45 minutes after their breakup.
The footage shows him conversing with the schoolgirl at a bus stop after she hesitantly agreed to speak with him.
In the released video, Holly appears reluctant as MacPhail steps into an alley. She pauses briefly before following him in, completely unaware that he was concealing a knife.
Seconds later, now 17 years old, MacPhail attacked her ‘many, many times.’
The murderer has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 15 years and 89 days, following his earlier conviction for this ‘brutal and vicious’ act.
During sentencing, Mr. Justice Hilliard remarked that MacPhail was ‘filled with resentment and jealousy,’ having lured Holly to the alley to ‘assault her out of view.’
Recently, the court allowed the teen to be named despite his age, uncovering details of his and Holly’s ‘toxic’ relationship for the first time.
The two had met three years prior to the horrific events while participating in Army Cadets in Consett, County Durham. They entered into a relationship marked by frequent arguments and several breakups.
MacPhail was a troubled individual grappling with educational difficulties and autism, requiring attendance at a specialized school.
On January 21 of the previous year, just six days before the murder, Holly had made the final decision to end their relationship.
Prosecutor David Brooke KC informed Newcastle Crown Court, « Logan MacPhail was having difficulty coping with the breakup. »
« It is evident that he was very unhappy about it. »
Overwhelmed by his fixation on Holly, the teenager attempted to ‘deceive’ her into meeting and incessantly troubled her friends.
The court heard that Holly’s mother, Micala Trussler, grew increasingly alarmed, prompting her to alert the school authorities.
The night prior to the tragic event, MacPhail traveled 40 miles from his home in Gateshead to Holly’s residence in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, where he loitered for hours.
When MacPhail knocked on the door under the pretext of retrieving his Playstation, Holly’s mother arranged for a police meeting.
Despite this, Holly ‘pleaded’ with her mother to allow her to go into town instead of returning for the scheduled 4 PM discussion.
This meeting was postponed to later that evening, but sadly, Holly was murdered before she could reach home.
On January 27, the affected teen sent a message to a friend, stating: ‘Apparently, (MacPhail) is going to meet me outside of school. He’s basically stalking me now. He’s going to follow me until I talk to him.’
CCTV footage captured MacPhail on a bus without any disguise before he later put on a snood to conceal his identity.
He was recorded trailing Holly for 45 minutes, ensuring he remained unnoticed.
As Holly and her companions walked past a café, the hooded MacPhail was in close pursuit.
He was also observed dodging through a Tesco parking lot as he continued his stalking behavior.
MacPhail then stared at Holly while waiting outside a pizza restaurant where she had entered with a friend.
Shortly after, he approached her at a bus stop, unawares that MacPhail had brought a kitchen knife with him from home.
Employees at the pizza restaurant heard Holly’s screams and rushed outside to find him attacking her.
They were able to ‘forcibly’ separate MacPhail from her, despite his claims that the schoolgirl had been ‘horrible’ to him.
Upon his arrest, he lamented, ‘Oh what have I done?’
Holly was transported to the hospital after suffering 36 injuries—comprising 12 stab wounds and 19 slash wounds—within a minute.
MacPhail’s savage attack broke the knife, with Holly sustaining injuries as she desperately attempted to defend herself.
Tragically, she could not be saved and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
In a distressing bodycam video, MacPhail told officers, ‘She was
