Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) par JR Ward

Amour, larmes, suspense, rires, sexe…

I will read Lover Enshrined. I’m curious to see how this Primale thing is going to play out… Expecting a several-hundred year old virgin to sexually service 40ish other virgins seems like a disaster waiting to happen an intriguing conflict.

We got to see much more of the the Scribe Virgin’s domain through the eyes of Cormia; Phury’s new Mate… And I suppose we’ll see and hear more about them both in the next book. My weak heroine alarm bells are ringing though(hide spoiler)]

I’m glad that Zsadist has taken a special interest in John. And I’m glad that Z revealed his sole knowledge of the attack which has left John so emotionally scarred. However, I wish Z would tell John that he’s not alone. He would really benefit from hearing that a Male he respects has suffered the same kind of abuse and is still a Warrior. (hide spoiler)]

(voir spoiler)

I was really able to believe the feelings of desperate loss from Jane… I actually got a little misty-eyed.

So we were suffering through the Breakup…

V was a mess.
Jane was a mess.
The Brotherhood was all on edge.
Then Phury steps up and volunteers to be the Primale in V’s place.

Wrath approves of the change.
So does the Scribe Virgin.
So Vishous rushes over to Jane’s house…
He restores her memories of him.
We have this touching reunion.

Then reality sets in…
How can a human and a vampire stay together?
Vishous can’t walk away from the Brotherhood.
Jane can’t walk away from being a surgeon.
Neither can walk away from their love…

Then Jane has a revelation!
She’ll be chief surgeon for the Brotherhood.
They’ll stay in the compound together.
Its a win – win!
Everything is going to work out for these two!

Then
Jane
Gets
Shot
By
A
Lesser.

Vishous
Watches
His
Mate
Die.

J.R. WARD HAS THE ABILITY TO WARM YOUR HEART…
THEN SHATTER IT TO PIECES

Vishous takes Jane’s body to the sacred tomb.
He tries to use his hand to resurrect her.
The Scribe Virgin stops him.
She turns Jane’s body into a bust made of ash.
She’s gone.
Vishous is alone.

A few days later, Vishous has his psychic curse back.
He has gotten past the crossroads which prevented him from seeing the future.

The Scribe Virgin comes in… With a Ghost Jane from the other side…

WAIT…
WHAT?

So Vishous gets his happily ever after with Jane… Who is now a ghost?

I just don’t know what to feel about that ending… A ghost? Seriously? I am not impressed with that. As much as it would have hurt my heart (and Vishous, obviously)… Perhaps when you kill a character they should stay dead… I might change my mind on that later. But the ghost thing really isn’t sitting right with me.

I’d rather rage at a book for killing off a character I like and making me feel terrible about the loss, than feel like I’ve been given a cheap band-aid fix to solve the untimely death…

This « Ghost » ridiculousness is why I have to give the book 4 stars instead of the 5 it would have received otherwise…

…Oh, and I was so stupefied by the ghost ending that it nearly overshadowed the sweetness of Vishous bringing a bird to the Scribe Virgin to thank her for reuniting he and Jane… That was sweet. Makes me want to hug V all the more…

“Okay, stop right there. You’re giving me hives from this caring/sharing shit.”

“You know I’m right.”

“Fuck you, Dr. Phil.”
“Good, I’m glad we agree. Hey, maybe I could have a talk show since you aren’t going to be my June Cleaver anymore. I could call it the O’Neal hour. Sounds important, doesn’t it?”

“First of all, you were going to be June Cleaver-”

“Screw that. No way I would ever bottom for you.”

Priceless! Although, I’m still a little disappointed that we don’t get to see a Butch / Vischous Hookup. (hide spoiler)]

Certains de mes moments préférés :

(voir spoiler)

« Right now you’re throwing off an aura like your ass is plugged into the wall. So I strongly encourage you to drop the I-am-an-island bullshit and get your sorry excuse for a personality into Rehv’s office before we have a situation. Dig? »

After many years in medicine and surgery, she was pretty clear on the « Thou Shalt Not Mack on Your Patients » part of the Hippocratic oath. Especially if the patient in question had kidnapped you. Christ. Was she really living this?

V swallowed a curse. Man, if he were any more chicked-out on her, he’d be wearing nail polish.

Terrific. A bisexual dominant vampire with kidnapping expertise…

…John decided that humiliation was a lot like ice cream: It came in a lot of flavors, gave you the chills, and made you want to cough. Talk about Rocky Road. Right now he was choking on the shit.

Falling into ruin was a bit like falling in love: Both descents stripped you bare and left you as you were at your core. And in his limited experience, both endings were equally painful.

Man, just her luck he was determined to be a gentleman. The bastard.

« When I want you to beg I’ll tell you. »
