Four years have passed between Team BreakUP And ZWAARD, an eternity for this prolific rapper who launched a novel and three albums during the same year 2018. The incomparable Beans, 52 years old, co-founder of the avant-garde rap group Anti-Pop Consortium (reunited again in the middle of the album), returns with his prosody which one would always believe to be improvised, as if the chain of his thoughts were constantly threatening to disembark. This one becomes verbose, dense, poetic, its rhymes are this time spread over rhythms of a frenzy rarely heard in his elusive discography, thanks to his new collaborator, the Finnish composer Sasu Ripatti, better known to fans of electronic music cutting edge under the name Vladislav Delay. It’s an assault from the first song, techno almost juke-footwork, the BPM counter goes crazy; along the way, the tempo will calm down, evoking the electro of his old Consortium. At 52, Beans — “ one of the flyest emcee’s on AARP [Association américaine des personnes retraitées] “, he jokes — still possesses an admirable audacity, determined to push the limits of rap.
