zucchini, a vegetable for beginners

The zucchini, it succeeds every time, it is the perfect vegetable for beginner gardeners. With the advice of Roland Motte, gardener of France Bleu, it’s even better!

If you have a vegetable garden, you must know zucchini. It is an easy vegetable to grow, it works for everyone, even beginner gardeners.

Plant zucchini!

Zucchini is part of the Cucurbitaceae family. It comes to us from Central America and was already consumed by the Incas, fond of this vegetable. As with all squashes, the plant produces both male and female flowers, and it is the female flowers that will produce the fruit. Sow or plant your courgettes between April and June. Depending on the region, more or less hot in the spring, sow your seeds in a greenhouse or in the ground, the zucchini grows on its own. It is enough just to water it well the first month so that the roots settle well, then generously mulch the foot to prevent rising damp and keep as much moisture in the soil as possible. And the fruits will be dry.

Zucchini in all sauces!

You won’t have to wait long for the first harvests, two months from planting, and it gives you fruit all summer long. It is full of water, rich in fiber and vitamins. In the kitchen, you have the choice, raw, cooked, in ratatouille, grilled… it goes well with all sauces. Roland has a preference for slices grilled on the barbecue or on the plancha, and for the raw version: zucchini tagliatelle in a salad, it’s delicious!
