Lampedusa (Italy) is an island, located in the south-east of Sicily, which has become synonymous with the migration crisis. This island is located less than 150 kilometers from the Tunisian coast,and who makes Lampedusa one of the shortest routes to Europe. Since the beginning of the 2000s, thousands have tried their luck. In 2013, a man who had crossed the “three days” stated: “I suffered a lot.”
“We suffer with them”
This Eldorado is sometimes deadly and haunts the lives of the inhabitants. “They’re coming here. We see all that. We put up with all that. We suffer with them. It’s been going on for 20 years.”testifies a woman. 20 years of migrations with a record. In 2016, 120,000 people, many of them Syrians fleeing the war, arrived in the Italian port.
