Zone outing, season 3 | Episode 59: At the start of a new dynasty?

Artturi Lehkonen and the Colorado Avalanche held off the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Finals and won the Stanley Cup. General manager Joe Sakic will now have a lot to do to keep his team intact.

Have we seen the best of Avalanche before, or are we witnessing the birth of a new dynasty? As for the Lightning, will we see its core dismantle?

When the Lightning won the Cup in 2020, we thought they could never keep that core with the salary cap. They reissued. We said to ourselves: it’s sure that it’s over. They figured it out and came back with a roster that came very close to winning the Stanley Cup a third time. The Avalanche are in a more critical situation, there are several independent players. But when you build a culture and you’ve experienced those emotions, it’s still a very attractive place for players. Joe Sakic has shown how good a GM he is by setting up this team, he can also show that he is by keeping it competitive.

Kudos to Joe Sakic. He went for Devon Toews, who rounds out the NHL’s best pairing. He went for Lehkonen, Cogliano, Josh Manson. Are these incredible acquisitions? You do this when your core is ready to win. The core was mature, you surround them.
