Zone outing, season 3 | Episode 33: The New Canadian

Three wins in a row… Who was talking about reconstruction already?

Posted at 5:18 p.m.

We’re kidding, but the Canadian’s recent series of successes allows us to see several players in a new (and better) light. Should the Canadian really trade Ben Chiarot at all costs?

It has nothing to do with winning or changing coaches. It’s been a long time since I contacted Ben Chiarot’s agent to find out how long it takes for him to stay. If it’s reasonable, these guys are so rare. But it must be reasonable. We are talking about 4.5 million for 3 years max, it would be a good contract. I think it’s going to get more elsewhere, but you try it anyway. You can’t trade them all. Even if you have a first choice, you are never sure that it will become as good as Ben Chiarot.

Stephane Waite

Has Jeff Petry really declined as we have seen since the start of the season? And should Cole Caufield still return to Laval? No doubt, the effect of the coaching change is being felt. Will this revival be sustainable? Beyond the immediate results, the words of Jeff Gorton on the need for modernization of the Canadian startled Stéphane Waite, who was clearly ready to parade all the novelties implemented under Marc Bergevin in the organization.

Stéphane Waite: Old school, it made me laugh a little. In the first few years, he hired so many new people, he almost doubled the people in hockey operations. That was a lot of new people. We used to say it was old school.

Simon-Olivier Loange: Imagine what it was like before if Bergevin embodied renewal. It’s a bit to say the house looks dated, because it is decorated like in the 80s. Yes, but two weeks ago it was decorated like the 60s. It may be newer, but not quite up to date.

Stéphane Waite: If an organization was old school, it was the Boston Bruins when Jeff Gorton was there.

In this episode of the podcast Area exita collaboration between The Press and on 98.5 FM, host Jérémie Rainville receives Stéphane Waite, Simon-Olivier Lorange and Guillaume Lefrançois.
