Zone exit, season 5 | Episode 40: Fights come back into the discussion

Rarely have we seen an obscure fourth-line player make a name for himself as quickly as Matt Rempe did this week. Rempe, however, did not achieve this by scoring goals, but rather by dropping the gloves against strong men like Nicolas Deslauriers, Matt Martin and Mathieu Olivier. A situation unanimously deplored by our guests, although Stéphane Waite reminds us that we should not “begrudge the young person”. However, questions about hypocrisy in the face of fights and possible impacts to the head are raised.

For his part, the Canadian is preparing to face a rare team as miserable as him. The Coyotes arrive in Montreal at the heart of a 12-game losing streak. Who from Josh Anderson, Alex Newhook, the goaltenders or the penalty kill can deliver better results? Our guests discuss it. The return of Patrick Kane to Chicago and the problems of the Winnipeg Jets at the box office also fill the discussion of the day.

[Matt] Rempe, clearly, has identified what he thinks he needs to do to stay in the NHL, to hang on, to make a name for himself, so kudos to him for his courage, but […] it’s a bit Slapshot.

Guillaume Lefrançois

The Canadian, for seven games […] has been one of the best teams in the NHL for puck possession and has been a very good team at five-on-five. He suffered six defeats out of seven in that streak, so something clearly went wrong.

Simon-Olivier Lorange

If you don’t win tomorrow and you go on the road, and it’s going to be difficult, you can end up with 10, 11, 12 losses in a row. It’s burdensome for the players, you don’t want that.

Stéphane Waite
