Zone exit, season 5 | Episode 27: Optimism flies away

The 6-1 thaw suffered by the Canadian at home against the Buffalo Sabers on Thursday is causing concern among our panelists. Simon-Olivier Lorange, Alexandre Pratt, Stéphane Waite and host Louis Jean debate the need to acquire reinforcements, particularly in the center. Stéphane Waite is also critical of the club’s coaches. Also on the menu: the brilliance of Sidney Crosby, the rebirth of Jonathan Drouin and good words for Devon Levi.

Sometimes I feel like the coaches are overwhelmed. We don’t know what to do, nothing is getting better. It’s not a matter of talent, playing well defensively, it’s a matter of commitment, and the players are not committed. I don’t want to blame the defenders, the forwards are mixed up in our zone. They are not available to defenders. If we don’t have this commitment, it may be because the players don’t know what to do.

Stéphane Waite

Something clicked in the case of Jonathan Drouin. He’s had several points recently, but he also played 25 minutes in the Avalanche’s win over the Stars. A few weeks ago, he was playing 10 minutes per game, he was left out. There is half a season left, I hope he maintains this pace. We know how much talent he has, and I wish everyone well in life, because indeed, it hasn’t been easy in Montreal. But I’m going to wait before saying it’s done.
